BOMBSHELL: THE HEDY LAMARR STORY

BOMBSHELL: THE HEDY LAMARR STORY

(Documentary · 2017 · 90 min.)

Friday, April 13 · 6 PM · $10

“Dine & Discuss” will take place after the film at Shippy’s, 36 Windmill Lane.

What do the most ravishingly beautiful actress of the 1930’s and 40’s and the inventor whose concepts were the basis of cell phone and bluetooth technology have in common? They are both Hedy Lamarr, the glamour icon whose ravishing visage was the inspiration for Snow White and Cat Woman and a technological trailblazer who perfected a radio system to throw Nazi torpedoes off course during WWII. Weaving interviews and clips with never-before-heard audio tapes of Hedy speaking on the record about her incredible life—from her beginnings as an Austrian Jewish emigre to her scandalous nude scene in the 1933 film Ecstasy to her glittering Hollywood life to her ground-breaking, but completely uncredited inventions to her latter years when she became a recluse, impoverished and almost forgotten—BOMBSHELL: THE HEDY LAMARR STORY brings to light the story of an unusual and accomplished woman, spurned as too beautiful to be smart, but a role model to this day.

“Dine & Discuss” – Continue the Conversation! After each Friday night film, a local restaurant will host a communal table to allow attendees to discuss the film over dinner. Special discounts and/or a pre-fixe menu will be available.

WHY MERCADO
We choose the name Mercado after an intense culinary trip to Mexico, taking cooking lessons from top chefs while working to understand its cuisine (both street food as well as top notch restaurants)and its people and delightful flavors We especially like visiting the local Mercados (markets) in every town big and small where we experienced many new ingredients and flavors . We wanted to bring that fresh from the market feel and honor the long and flavorful history of Mexican Cuisine to our restaurant and hence the name Mercado.

After my recent trip to cities like Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca and many small villages, I was inspired to revamp our menu to make it more authentic and with the help of Chef Julieta Ballesteros of Crema in NYC we created something special at Mercado.

Chef Julieta Ballesteros has been voted either the #1 or #2 Mexican chef in NYC by Zagats for 6 years running. She is the chef/owner of Crema and China Latina in NYC as well as consultant to several other restaurants throughout the city. She has appeared on Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen nightmares when he needed an expert in Mexican cuisine to help revamp a restaurant and has also been an Iron Chef contestant. Her unique style has helped in acknowledging Mexican cuisine as an upscale experience and she has helped bring that Mercado’s dishes.

The Choral Society of The Hamptons: Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle

Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle

First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton
120 Main Street, East Hampton, New York
Monday, April 9 7:00pm
Church of the Holy Trinity in New York City

316 E 88th Street (between 1st and 2nd Ave.), New York, New York

Opera lovers will not be disappointed by the Petite messe solennelle, which the renowned opera composer Gioachino Rossini refered to as “the last mortal Sin of my Old Age.” With John Daly Goodwin as guest conductor, the Choral Society of the Hamptons will guide audiences through a parade of uplifting choruses, arias, and ensembles in Rossini’s distinctive style. The chorus will be joined by four outstanding soloists from Mexico, all of whom were winners of the prestigious Ópera San Miguel vocal competition.

Written in 1863, decades after his last opera, Guillaume Tell, the Petite messe solennelle is considered the finest achievement of Rossini’s retirement. The Mass is described as neither petite, nor particularly solemn, and it is peppered by grand operatic moments and glimpses of humor. Written in the opera buffa style, the Messe is the work of a man with a strong, if unorthodox, religious beliefs.
