CURATOR’S INSIGHT

A word first on the scene in Scotland in the 1700’s meaning magic spell or the capacity of making things attractive and a most fitting theme for an exhibit where color, staging and imagination create a portrait of beauty and excitement. Hollywood icons and femme fatales of the past hang alongside celebrities with similar reputations of the present while butterflies transform into enchanting works of art. Humor captures the playful seduction of the innocent “pool boy.” A scene no doubt played out in all if not most of the mansions in the hills. Not to mention on the big screen. Glam, with all its allure, seemed the perfect exhibit to embark on a new year, hopefully one filled with much beauty and excitement. And, just for the record, glam is worth 7 points in scrabble and 10 in words with friends. Andrea McCafferty & Kat O’Neill (Co-Owners & Directors)

Winter skies and cold temperatures often produce snowflakes and the young and young at heart are delighted.  In this class we will learn about the weather conditions that lead to snow, the varied structures of the snowflake form and about photographers who challenge themselves with capturing their images.  Students will be directed to fold squares of white paper and cut them to produce a snowflake design.  Numerous designs will be made, and the arrangement will be collaged onto a large sheet of paper.  A border will be sponge printed with white paint. There is a materials fee of $5 per child for this program. All materials will be provided.

EHTPS: Montauk Hike

Saturday, January 8th, 2022
10:00am – 12:00pm

Camp Hero Road
Montauk, NY

This serpentine trail leads us from tall forests with streams crossed by bridges to the windswept shores of Block Island Sound. Once there, we come upon a wealth of information about the seal migrations past our area, as well as a viewing shelter on the bluff. With luck, seals can be seen swimming to catch fish, or some may be basking on the exposed rocks offshore, weather, tide and waves permitting. Dress for potential wind, and bring binoculars if you have them. Meet by 10 AM on Camp Hero Road, a right turn off route 27 about a mile east of Deep Hollow Ranch stables.
