Saturday, June 29th at 5:00pm and 7:30pm
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) is best known for beloved symphonies, concertos, and operas, especially those wrote in Vienna. However, the music he composed in Salzburg, although written with restrictions set by his employer, the Archbishop of Salzburg, highlights his innovative choral music, which both satisfied the conservative demands of the archbishop and his own ambitions. Mozart in Salzburg, the Choral Society of the Hamptons’ concert on June 29, features three of these works, Vesperae Solennes de Confessore (Solemn Vespers of the Confessor), K. 339, Regina Coeli, K. 276, and Veni Sancte Spiritus, K. 47. The soprano soloist Chelsea Shephard will return to grace the performances with her bright, warm voice, performing two Mozart concert arias: Voi avete un cor fedele, K. 217, and Alma grande e nobil cor, K. 578. The chorus will be joined by the South Fork Chamber Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Divertimento for Strings, K. 138. The program, at 5 and 7:30 p.m., will usher in summer on the South Fork with sounds of triumph from this venerated composer.
