Guild Hall Presents: Crisis In Queens By Joy Behar

Friday, September 3rd, 2021 – Saturday, September 4th, 2021
8:00pm

Guild Hall
158 Main Street
East Hampton, NY 11937

You know Joy from co-hosting The View. Maybe you know her from her stellar stand-up career. But who knew, this versatile humorist, commentator, comedienne and writer is branching out into playwrighting?

Relationships are hard and marriage is work. Guild Hall is delighted to present a debut staged reading of Joy Behar’s new, full-length comedy, Crisis in Queens. Annabella Sciorra plays an unhappy 40-something Queens funeral parlor employee with dreams of being a professional singer. She blames her husband, portrayed by Steven Weber, for her life’s failures – and proceeds in setting off a chain of events in which she gets so much more than she ever bargained for. But sometimes relationships need a little shaking up!

The comical cast of characters also  incudes Catherine Curtin, Irene Sofia Lucio, Dave Quay, Matt Servitto, and Brenda Vaccaro.

The East Hampton Historical Society’s The Sounding Sea Exhibition

CURRENTLY ON VIEW

The Thomas & Mary Nimmo Moran Studio

Thursday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

229 Main Street, East Hampton, NY 11937

Water-influenced Paintings, Etchings and Drawlings

Inspired by the Ocean

Welcome to The Sounding Sea

The East Hampton Historical Society is proud to present their newest exhibition: The Sounding Sea; The Art of Edward, Thomas and Mary Nimmo Moran, currently on display at the Moran Studio, East Hampton Village. The Sounding Sea follows the careers of three members of one of America’s most illustrious family of artists – and crown jewels in the East End’s artistic lineage and legacy – Edward Moran (1829-1902), his brother Thomas Moran (1837-1926) and Thomas’ wife, Mary Nimmo Moran (1842-1899).  This exhibition follows the muse of the ocean, a powerful subject that has lured artistic imagination; all works on exhibit revolve around water.

Thomas Moran, “East Hampton, L.I.: Breezy Day at Main Beach”, o/c, 1894

When asked what inspired the current exhibit, East Hampton Historical Society’s Chief Curator, Richard Barons, said, “The story behind the careers of Edward, Thomas and Mary Nimmo Moran is fascinating.  Edward was a painter of marine subjects.  He hired his kid brother, Thomas, as his studio assistant and became his teacher.  Thomas married Mary Nimmo, and taught her to be his assistant.  They all loved seascapes and reflective ponds.  We have brought together, for the first time, over 40 of their oils, etchings, watercolors and drawing to celebrate this part of their artistic legacy.”

The Morans often took their inspiration from local East End seascapes. Imagine seeing Georgica Pond through the eyes of Mary Nimmo Moran (1885), the romance of the Peconic Bay as seen by Thomas Moran (1904), or moonlight on waves in the North Fork from the perspective of Edward Moran (1881). The works on display will transport the viewer into the turn of the 20th Century – travel back in time to familiar East End seascapes, ever-changing yet as constant as the tide.

Mary Nimmo Moran, “Georgica Pond: Looking Seaward” 1885, etching on paper, East Hampton Library, Thomas Moran Biographical Collection

Edward Moran, Moonlite Waves: Long Island’s North Fork, o/c 1881, private collectio

The sea can be operatic in its fury or becalmed in silence.  In its most brutal guise, the ocean can crush a vessel and send it sinking into the depths.  The sea can also be placid and alluring, even poetic.  It is the sea’s split personality that lures artists to portray it in all its many guises.  Welcome to The Sounding Sea, on display through September 12, 2021, at The Thomas and Mary Nimmo Moran Studio, Main Street, East Hampton.

Thursday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Note: For the final week of the exhibition, viewing dates will be extended:

Wednesday, September 8th through Sunday, September, 12th, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Hamptons Fine Art Fair, the inaugural international fine art fair from the producers of ShowHamptons, has announced their 2021 exhibitor list, featuring artworks by 70 select national and international galleries, with 51 in-person booths and the remaining exhibiting in online virtual reality booths. For the first time ever, Hamptons Fine Art Fair will take place inside and amongst the beautiful grounds of the historic Southampton Arts Center, a unique opportunity for art lovers and patrons to purchase important works in the museum. HFAF will feature works by 400+ respected artists with over 1000 pieces, totaling $100+ million in art for immediate acquisition. The in-person fair will be a welcome return to the bustling Hampton’s art and social scene after a period of online events, with thousands of attendees expected to pass through the fair over the Labor Day holiday weekend.  In 2020, ShowHampton’s first digitized art fair, Hamptons Virtual Art Fair displayed over 2,000 pieces of artwork from 90 international galleries in virtual reality booths in 2D and 3D. This year, HFAF will incorporate cutting-edge VR technology to create a simulated art fair environment for visitors who cannot attend in person, to virtually navigate as they would a physical fair.

Never before has the heart-pounding excitement of an international fine art fair come to the center of bustling Southampton Village to celebrate the East Ends’ new booming art scene.  This year, over 70 international art galleries from across the country and world will showcase their most important 20th and 21st-century art in real life and simultaneously digitally all over the world.  There will be over 400 revered artists on display, with a focus on accomplished Black artists, hot emerging artists, the blue-chip masters, an M.C. Escher display, and rediscovery of significant second-generation Abstract Expressionists. Founder and Executive Producer of HFAF, Rick Friedman, has announced artist Audrey Flack will be awarded the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Hollis Taggart Galleries. Edward Bekkerman, represented by ABA Gallery, and Bruce Dorfman, represented by Elizabeth Clement Fine Art will be honored as 2021 Featured Artists. Dr. Harvey Manes will be honored as 2021 Art Collector of the Year.

Executive Director of Hamptons Fine Art Fair, Rick Friedman commented, “This is the elegantly curated boutique show that Hamptonites have been seeking for years. As the only fine art fair that is held inside an actual art museum and grounds, our guests will feel a sense of luxury and privilege as they enter.” Friedman continues, “We are also the first fair to present both an in-person version as well as a virtual reality version, that stays live for months. Thus, we augment the viewership of the galleries substantially, from those on the East End, to art enthusiasts across the nation and world.”

Hamptons Fine Art Fair will momentously transform the grounds of Southampton Arts Center into a dynamic world-class art fair by utilizing the entire historic building and plush grounds, featuring a Sculpture Park, three dramatic climate-controlled pavilions, including The Pollock Pavilion, sponsored by Pincus Plastic Surgery, de Kooning Pavilion, and an elegant VIP Lounge. In The Pollock Pavilion, fairgoers will have the opportunity to enjoy original works from the former East Hampton resident and view a replica of the famous Jackson Pollock paint-stained studio barn floor. The Sculpture Park will feature impressive works by Louise Bourgeois, Larry Rivers, David Salle, Bill King, Hans Van de Bovenkamp, Joel Pearlman, Audrey Flack, Chakaia Booker, and others.

Starting on August 15, 2021, HFAF exhibitors will have the chance to upload their artworks to a virtual gallery in 2D and 3D formats using artPRESENT, pioneered during Hamptons Virtual Art Fair, providing as close to an authentic experience as possible. All artworks will be displayed in high-resolution detail. The online fair will remain live until November 30, 2021.

Hampton Classic Grand Prix

Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 – Sunday, September 5th, 2021

Route 27 at 240 Snake Hollow Road
Bridgehampton, NY, 11932

The Hampton Classic is one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the United States, a premier destination for horse people, and a much-anticipated stop on the summer tour for competitors. Now well into its fourth successful decade, The Hampton Classic Horse Show is in a class all its own, both in the minds of spectators and horse people alike.

Top equestrians from around the world compete for more than $800,000 in prize money. National champion hunter competitors, Olympic medalists, and scores of children and adult amateurs make up the field riding approximately 1,500 horses entered each year in 200+ separate competitions.

In addition to watching world class equestrian sport, spectators enjoy more than 80 onsite shops, a dozen International food options, daily activities in the kids’ area, and Monday’s annual Animal Adoption Day, featuring rescued dogs, cats, and horses in search of a forever home.

In 2009, the Hampton Classic became only the second horse show ever to receive the status of Heritage Competition by the United States Equestrian Federation.  This prestigious status is reserved for competitions that have been in existence for at least 25 years and have provided for their communities as well as the horse community as a whole in an unprecedented fashion.

Opening Sunday, on the beautiful grass of the Grand Prix Ring, you will find probably the tensest competition all week, the legendary Hampton Classic Leadline.  Dozens upon dozens of ponies parade their riders, judged by Olympic Gold medalist Joe Fargis, while their proud parents and grandparents watch nervously from the V.I.P. tents.

The week culminates with the $300,000 Hampton Classic Grand Prix, one of the most coveted titles in the sport.

The Hampton Classic Horse Show is always a grand way to end the summer. Held in high regard by the horse community, famous for its Hamptons Celebrity sightings, and second to none in high end shopping boutiques, it earns its nickname The Classic.
