The songbook is like a Tour of Italy – you can see the Tuscan countryside, with its Renaissance-arched church towers – Orvieto, Siena & Viterbo. The songs are miniatures – short, fleeting and over as quickly as any one of the feelings, quips, reproaches, or conversations the young lovers may have.
Features Pianist Mikael Eliasen of the Curtis Institute with soprano Ashley Robillard and baritone Dennis Chmelensky in a staged performance of Hugo Wolf’s Italian Songbook. The program has been featured at the National Gallery in Washington D.C. and tours the West Coast and Europe this season. It is performed in four 15 minute sets plus a brief epilogue.
*Artists appear by special arrangement with Curtis on Tour, the Nina von Maltzahn global touring initiative of the Curtis Institute of Music.
